Joey Smith, CCDT

I am Joey Smith (the grandkids call me Pappy) and I have been training dogs for over 20 years. For most of that time, I bred, raised and trained White German Shepherds. Now I have a Doberman named Rolf, who is my buddy. In the picture are Rolf’s friends – Bixby (on the left) and Iggy (the Beagle in the center). They are also a couple of my students.

​I’ve had dogs in my life at almost all times since 1973, at the age of 8. I’ve loved dogs in spite of the time I was attacked by a Boxer when I was three. I remember it like it was yesterday. The babysitter at my friend’s house left the door opened just long enough for “Mack the Dog” to get out. He made a b-line for me …

In 1993, I got my first White German Shepherd Dog, Snow. What a great guy he was! I had never owned a dog that intelligent. It was amazing how he made me look like a seasoned trainer when I had little experience. Unfortunately his life was cut considerably short by someone who gave him anti-freeze. He passed at 2 years old. Our house was burglarized one week later.

I fell in love with the breed in that short time that I had Snow, so much that North and Raven joined our household in 1995 and 1997 respectively. Again, training was a breeze and those guys produced several litters of pups.

I’ve definitely had a passion for dogs over the years. I’ve loved having them and being able to train them. I’ve helped family members and friends over the years with training. But after 30 years in sales with my family’s mattress business and other sales ventures, dog training has been my first love. I just never really thought about doing it for a living.

In 2014, I lost my 27 year oldest son, Joseph. It was after that when I realized just how short life is. I want to enjoy life and do what I like while I can. So I took a comprehensive dog training course with Catch Canine Trainers Academy and became a Certified Professional Dog Trainer.

From there, Sit, Stay… HOORAY!!! was born. I am ready willing and able to help with training and behavior issues with your dog. Heck, I can be there for you even if you don’t have your dog yet.
